Background
About Alexa Hoover
I am a dedicated fifth-year elementary resource (special education) teacher based in Fort Worth, Texas. I graduated from Texas Christian University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood-6th Grade Education. My teaching journey has evolved from two years of working with primary-grade students in reading and math to my current role, where I’ve spent the last three years teaching reading and dyslexia to students in both primary and intermediate grades. This experience has deepened my understanding of literacy development and sparked my desire to one day pursue a Master's in Special Education with a specialization in dyslexia. In my role, I am committed to advocating for each student's unique needs, ensuring they receive the support and accommodations necessary for success. I also empower my students by helping them set and track academic goals through "data talks," where we reflect on their progress and celebrate milestones together. In addition to my classroom responsibilities, I proudly serve as a mentor teacher for first-year educators, offering guidance and support as they begin their careers and, when applicable, work toward obtaining their certifications. I also serve as the special education team lead, collaborating with colleagues to promote best practices and working with district leaders to improve student outcomes. I believe that by modeling positive leadership behaviors to my students, I provide them with a visible example of effective leadership. In my classroom, I foster leadership skills by giving students roles such as group leaders and classroom helpers, empowering them to take initiative and contribute to the overall success of our learning community. Outside of work, I enjoy running, practicing yoga, and reading for pleasure, which help me maintain balance and stay energized. I am also passionate about travel and have visited 25 states across the U.S. and British Columbia, Canada. Travel has been one of life's greatest teachers for me and has offered valuable lessons about connection, adaptability, and perspective. It has broadened my understanding of diverse cultures and inspired a career in international education. I hope to bring my experience, leadership, and passion for education to a new community of learners while also gaining invaluable insights that will further enrich my professional and personal growth. I believe that education has the power to transform lives, and I am eager to contribute to that transformation on a global scale.
