About Alexa Kennedy

Having completed a Masters in Chemistry for Drug Discovery at the University of Bath, I am currently an Associate Scientist at Avacta Therapeutics. Alongside data management and analysis, I am also responsible for inventory management and CRO correspondence. I have also completed a 12-month placement at Bicycle Therapeutics, working in the Medicinal Chemistry team as a Student Research Associate. During the year, I worked on an exciting project that enabled my exposure to drug molecule optimisation, medicinal chemistry techniques (such as conducting alanine scans) and data analysis. My Master’s project focussed on antimicrobial nanoparticles for use in a hydrogel wound dressing. During this time, I gained an in-depth understanding of hydrogel drug delivery systems and about the impact of nanomedicine. I have experience working in a chemistry and microbiology lab and spent 3 months learning about solid phase peptide synthesis and peptide purification techniques. I have been exposed to different computational softwares such as Dotmatics and PyMOL, and also had the opportunity to present my work to different audiences.
