About Alexander Baughman

A driven History teacher focused on personal development and pushing the boundaries of acceptable comfort zones. After graduating with a 2:1 with Hons in International Relations and French in the summer of 2023, I pursued my education and dreams further to become a teacher. Being taught within both the University Royal Naval unit (URNU) and Officer Training Corps (OTC) through time at the university of Portsmouth has allowed the development of quality leadership training from respected institutions. Aiming for a future within the teaching sector or that of translation which will present opportunities to put learnt linguistic skills and time at the Université Francois-Rabelais (Tours) to work. In my spare time I have enjoyed taking part in university sports and culture, becoming the captain of the men's fencing team for the University of Portsmouth in 2020. Fencing was a sport I had never tried before but became familiar with as part of my university experience. It is an intense sport that requires mental focus and physical stamina. Alongside this I have taken part sports with both URNU and the OTC such as rugby, hockey and football during yearly sporting competitions. I enjoy the competitive nature and teamwork required to compete in these events. My love of languages led me to tutor English in Poland during the summer of 2022 where I worked alongside many other native speaking tutors who were tasked with coaching Polish students in their English language studies. The role required a wide range of skills including patience in working with young adults who may not be fully fluent in spoken English yet. This experience gave me valuable experience in helping others and gaining an understanding of how to teach another person a new skill by breaking it down into manageable chunks.
