About Alexander Brown

METEOROLOGY The earliest experience I had to define my future in weather was in 2003 when Hurricane Isabel made landfall in NC. At 9 years old, I stood outside in a poncho and took in the storm's awesome power (with parental consent). That passion has propelled me to graduate in Meteorology at NC State with an interest in operational forecasting and data analysis. Since April 2019, I have worked at the National Weather Service AWIPS Network Control Facility at the NWS headquarters in Silver Spring, MD. We provide 24-7 live network monitoring and on-call technical support to the all of the weather forecast offices and national centers in the NOAA AWIPS network. Apart of that, we need to be on top of the current weather and forecast to be prepared for any potential lapses in the data flow to the forecast offices so that all forecasts can be published in a timely manner. This has given me valuable personal interactions with forecasters from across the country and an understanding of the impacts of the weather across the US and Pacific Ocean to adequately assess and address any possible issues that may occur.
