About Alexander Cardieri

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Alexander Cardieri began his teaching career in 1979 having taught instrumental/vocal/general music, and fine arts integration at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. He retired in May, 2019 after a most rewarding and gratifying 40-year full-time career. He also has served as an adjunct music instructor at Pima Community College from 1996 to the present. Alexander Cardieri holds a B.M. in Piano and a M.M. in Music Theory from the Manhattan School of Music. He was awarded membership in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers in 1990 and awarded the O.M. Hartsell Excellence in Teaching Music Award in 2003. He is a co-author of the Arizona K-8 General Music Standards that was adopted in 2006 and has served as president of the Arizona Society for General Music and executive board member of the Arizona Music Educators Association. In 2016 he had a book published, “An Anthology and Approach to Ear Training: Through the Use of Familiar Tunes.” Alex has performed professionally as a pianist in the dining room/lounge/patio of Tucson’s finest venues for over 30 years. He was performing as a volunteer at assisted living homes playing piano dinner music for the residents twice weekly until mid-March 2020 when the COVID-19 lock-down began. Alex is still active working together with his wife, Filis, a violinist in their "Tucson Wedding Music" offering an elegant keyboard/violin duo for either the ceremony, reception, or both. They are presently showcasing on Wednesdays from 5pm to 7pm at Medella Vina Ranch, a wedding venue, for the weekly Wine Tasting/Happy Hour.
