About Alexander Dunn

Classical guitarist, performer, educator, concert organizer, outreach coordinator, Dr. Alexander Dunn has performed across Canada and the US, in Mexico, Cuba, Brazil, Western and Eastern Europe, S. Africa, China and Hong Kong. He is a respected and influential teacher who has shaped careers for his lauded students in performance, competition and academic positions. He is a researcher and historian whose PhD dissertation on Robert de Visée is well regarded, and whose extensive experience in performance practice, contemporary music, and chamber music make him a seasoned and well-rounded musician. He is also a dedicated mentor who has earned the reputation as an effective builder of technique and musicianship, resulting in competition judging, adjudication and guest teaching at USC Thornton School, Singapore Music Festival, Beijing Central Conservatory, San Francisco Conservatory, Royal Conservatory of Music Toronto, and countless others. He has established one of Canada’s best guitar programs and concert series that boast an extensive list of guest and visiting artists. Dr. Dunn is an outreach coordinator having worked with the Institute for International Education in bringing a talented guitar quartet from Syria to Canada and remains an active musical ambassador and representative. Awards and designations include the Fine Arts Award for Teaching Excellence and the Provost's Advocacy and Activism Award from the University of Victoria and Royal Conservatory of Music Toronto- Advanced Specialist.
