About Alexander Ferrer

I am a social scientist, policy analyst, and urban planner by training pursuing a PhD in Geography at UCLA. My focus is on landlord practices, housing markets, and community/regional economic development. I work primarily on three related issues: 1. Investigation of the corporate & business organization of landlords, both for strategic corporate research purposes and in market-wide analyses 2. The interaction between housing market segments and landlord practices 3. The political and economic forces which underpin changing housing conditions In order to conduct my research I apply statistical and data-scientific techniques to original and existing public datasets predominantly using python, and employ advanced GIS geovisualization and analysis practices, as well as making use of qualitative approaches like critical document analysis and interviews. I have additional experience in conducting neighborhood analyses, policy impact and incidence studies, drafting public facing and governmental reports, and the development of new GIS techniques and algorithms for public and non-profit sector use.
