About Alexander Ribeiro

In May 2024 I graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas - Honors College with a B.A. in Psychology and minors in Neuroscience and Family Studies. I earned the Magna Cum Laude Latin designation with a 3.993 GPA. My academic, research, and clinical experiences have all developed my deep passion for the field of psychology. More specifically, my work with disadvantaged youth as a reentry specialist has strongly influenced my interest in the family system, especially when it comes to the development and maintenance of maladaptive childhood behaviors. From May 2024 to August 2025, I advanced my career through pursuits outside of academia. I maintained my role within the CHAMPION Mental Health Lab while conducting a year of research within a new lab - the CHARISMA Lab. My further involvement in research undoubtedly continued to prepare me for the rigorous demands of future reach endeavors. In addition to research, I started my Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor - Internship (CADC-I) under the guidance of Rob Henderson and ARE Therapy. At ARE Therapy, I have had the opportunity to facilitate substance use-based recreation and leisure groups at multiple intensive outpatient/partial hospitalization and clinically managed residential service facilities. These groups have bolstered my public speaking and presentation skills while affording me first hand experience with populations of interest. I look forward to utilizing both my eventual LADC and clinical licensures in the future. In August 2025 I started the MS in Couples and Family Therapy program within the School of Medicine at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I was also offered a graduate assistantship position that tasks me with visiting local elementary, middle, and high schools to discuss various topics related to the college admissions process and college life in general. My goal is to obtain a Ph.D. in couples and family therapy so that I can teach courses at a college or university while practicing with couples and families as well.
