I am a CSIRO research scientist at the Australian National Herbarium in Canberra. My research interests include the systematics and evolution of flowering plants, in particular Asteraceae (daisy family), biogeography, polyploidy, and the application of AI / image classification to species identification.I use DNA sequence data to resolve phylogenetic relationships and understand the evolution of Australian native daisies. I am collaborating with the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources on mobile identification of weeds and pests, with CISS and NSW DPI in the WeedScan project, and with CSIRO Health & Biosecurity to provide phylogenetic expertise to the planning of host specificity tests.
