About Alexander Torchia

Hey There! My name is Alex Torchia, and I'm a third year computer science engineering student with a focus in artificial intelligence and minor in cybersecurity at The Ohio State University. In my time at Ohio State, I've worked as an Office Assistant with The Office of Student Life, Residence Life, where I gained valuable insight into the student experience and became deeply involved in the community. This involvement lead to my engagement within my academic unit, becoming a grader for Software 1, an introductory course to computer programming for first years, as a first year student myself. From there I took my problem solving, customer service, and training skills to the Office of Distance Education and eLearning as a Classroom and Digital Union Support agent, where I currently aid in troubleshooting classroom technology, providing assistance to instructors with use of our equipment, and aid with the use and operation of the Digital Unions, spaces which allow for the creation of different works such as videos, audio pieces, 3D prints, laser cutting, and the Adobe suite of products. Outside of my employment, I took an active role in my community, working with OSUVotes, a non-partisan student cohort within Student Life at the university aiming to increase student voting rates and civic engagement, initially working as a member of the groups marketing and outreach team, and now serving as that team's director where I coordinate social media campaigns, manage branding and public image, and coordinate with the central university marketing team to produce materials for the cohort. Simultaneously, I served as the outreach chair for the Engineers' Council, which serves as the liaison between various engineering student organizations and university administration, as well as representing the university the National Association of Engineering Student Councils. In that role I planned and created a new website for the council, and quadrupled engagement rates on social media platforms. I hope to leverage my experiences in these positions and combine it with my academic courses to devise new and innovate cybersecurity solutions, powered by AI while also being designed for use by almost anyone, allowing for the enhancement of protections to critical enterprise processes for organizations who may otherwise be unable to obtain it.
