About Alexander Turner

Alexander Turner BSc MB ChB FRCS(Paeds) FEAPU PhDI am a Paediatric Surgeon and Urologist with a special interest in Paediatric Urology, particularly in the fields of genital and pelvic reconstruction. My PhD research, as a Wellcome Trust Research Training Fellow and Royal College of Surgeons of England Research Fellow (York University, 2008) involved the development of a functional, tissue-engineered urothelium with re-implantation into an augmented bladder with de-epithelialised bowel as a "Composite Cystoplasty". I have published the work in European Urology and presented at many national and international conferences. I am a Fellow of the European Association of Paediatric Urologists.I was awarded the Best Thesis Award by the European Society of Paediatric Urology in 2009 and Best Scientific Paper on Fundamental Research in European Urology by a Young Urologist in 2012.I have been an invited author for a number of textbooks, for both tissue engineering and paediatric surgery/urology.My current appointment is Consultant Paediatric Surgeon and Urologist at Leeds Childrens' Hospital (NHS) and also at Spire Hospital, Roundhay, Leeds (Private).Outside medicine, I have an interest in education, and am a Governor, Director of the Company and Trustee of the Charity of Yarm School in Teeside, UK.
