I am a nationally recognized expert on the civil justice system and tort law. I teach and write about civil procedure, torts, complex litigation, professional responsibility, and related subjects. In addition to my scholarship, as a consultant I work on projects evaluating and pricing litigation risk in large-scale litigation and class action and MDL practice and procedure. Some of my publications- In Praise of Litigation (Oxford 2017)- Civil Procedure: Doctrine, Practice, and Context (Aspen, 7th ed 2024)- Prosser Wade and Schwartz's Torts, Cases and Materials (West 15th ed 2024)- Volume 11A of the Wright & Miller Federal Practice and Procedure Treatise (on preliminary remedies)- Hornbook on Multi-District Litigation (under contract with West)- and over 30 law review articles. I am a member of the American Law Institute and admitted to practice in Massachusetts and New York.
