Background

About Alexandra Lean

Alexandra Lean is a playwright, lyricist, songwriter and producer. She completed her first musical in 2013 as part of the Toronto Fringe Festival. This experience also developed her skills in marketing, event management, public relations and so much more. Alexandra Lean is a Toronto-based writer who enjoys writing stories and songs and improvising. She earned her undergraduate degree at Brock University in Theatre. While there, she served as president of the student-run organization Brock Improv and was the recipient of the F. Janet Dolman Prize for Excellence in Playwriting. She earned a post-graduate certificate from Humber College in Television: Writing and Producing. In 2013, Alexandra wrote and produced her first 90-minute musical, Nobody’s Idol, at the Toronto Fringe Festival. The well-received musical is about the lengths people will go for the allure of fame. Alexandra's work is informed by her love of improv comedy. In 2008, she studied the art of longform improvisation at i.O. Chicago and Upright Citizens Brigade in New York City. From there, she improvised with Toronto’s Impatient Theatre Co. and had a fabulous time as part of the Harold team Nakatomi Protocol. For 2 years, this team performed regularly in Toronto and at festival like NYC’s Del Close Marathon, North Carolina’s Comedy Arts Festival and Atlanta’s Combustion Festival. Alexandra also participated in the conservatory at The Second City Training Centre in Toronto. In 2015, Alex went back to Chicago for one more improv intensive this time at The Annoyance Theatre run by Mick Napier. Alexandra runs a company called A.L.P- Alexandra Lean Productions. The overall mission is to reduce the lagtime between when a script is written and when it's put on its feet. The current mission is to produce her own new works that deserve the opportunity to see the light of day. In 2017 she brought two brainchildren to life Mimi and the Music and Character Assassination: A Writer’s Guide to Killing Your Literary Darlings. She is currently working to develop her next venture Witch.
