About Alexandra Shinde

As a microbiologist with a passion for understanding the gut-microbiome-brain connection, I am driven to explore the potential of microbiome-based therapies to improve human health. My Master's thesis focused on developing new approaches to harness the power of the gut microbiome to treat various diseases, including neurodegenerative conditions. With a personal connection to Ataxia, a rare neurodegenerative disease that runs in my family, I am particularly motivated to study the role of the microbiome in these disorders. In addition to my research background, I have spent time as a substitute teacher, where I discovered a love for teaching and inspiring students to develop a passion for science. Currently, I work in the clinical field, helping run clinical trials studying therapeutics for rare disease, pyoderma gangrenosum. While I enjoy contributing to advancements in medicine through clinical research, I hope to return to my roots in gut-microbiome-focused research, continuing to explore the complex interplay between humans and the microbes that influence health and disease.
