About Alexei Jones

Senior EU external action expert leading policy analysis and strategy on development cooperation and international partnerships. I am an international affairs and development cooperation expert with a strong record in policy research, analysis, and strategic advice. Over the years, I have advised EU institutions, member states, including EU presidencies, and key stakeholders on policy formulation, institutional processes, and high-level negotiations, contributing to shaping EU debates on development cooperation and external financing. At ECDPM, I lead the organisation’s work on EU foreign and development policy, overseeing strategic content, team leadership, and programme management. I am a recognised specialist on EU external action, development cooperation, and financing instruments, and hold a PhD in European and international law and development studies. My earlier experience includes consultancy and policy advice, work as a policy officer at the European Commission, and academic roles as university lecturer, and visiting researcher in Africa.
