About Alexia Benn

I am originally from Vancouver and acknowledge the territory of the Musqueam, Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, Esquimalt, Songhees and W̱SÁNEĆ nations on which I was raised on and call home. Graduating in 2022 with a BA in political science and a minor in public administration from the University of Victoria, I have since completed a Freelance Journalism course through the University of British Columbia. I’ve worked in the public sector with nonprofits, municipalities, and First Nations for seven years, recently taking my first position in the private sector. I am passionate about dismantling systemic oppression through the transformative power of community, empowerment, genuine collaboration and effective policymaking. Additionally, I have published both creative writing and journalistic pieces in publications such as British Columbia Magazine. I (occasionally) host a podcast about politics and culture, with a focus on community. In my free time, I am most often found reading, writing, swimming, gardening, hiking, or practising yoga.
