About Alexia Correia

I’m an incoming nursing student at the University of Toronto with hands-on experience supporting patient care in emergency, surgical, and ambulatory settings. I began my healthcare journey young, starting co-op at 16 and later working on the frontlines during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, I’ve worked in patient registration at Unity Health Toronto across ambulatory, plastics, and cystoscopy clinics, and in emergency care. I often serve as the first point of contact for patients and families navigating acute situations, including resuscitation events. In high-stress environments, I’ve learned to communicate clearly, assess urgency, and create a sense of stability for people in crisis. Outside the hospital, I’ve led campus-wide initiatives focused on EDIDA, mental health, and gender-based violence response and education. I developed trauma-informed supplemental education for student leaders and served as a peer support resource, with a focus on inclusive practice and navigating disclosures with care. My background in conservation research and citizen science has shaped how I understand health—recognizing the role of environment, access, and systemic barriers in shaping patient outcomes. This broader lens continues to inform my approach to care. I’ll be starting nursing school this fall, and I’m always eager to connect with professionals who value equity, collaboration, and the real work of care.
