About Alexia Cosman

Alexia is a recent graduate of the University of Florida, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Cell Science, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, and a minor in Mathematics. Her diverse educational background is complemented by extensive research and professional experiences. During her time at UF, Alexia led a research project on microbial diversity on student laptops, the findings of which were presented at an American Society of Microbiology (ASM) teaching conference and later on, symposium. An internship with the Florida Program for Shark Research further enriched her scientific understanding, with insights shared through a published blog. In addition to her scientific pursuits, Alexia has been actively involved in public service and her community. She worked as a mathematics instructor at Mathnasium and continued tutoring her peers throughout her college career. Her internship with Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson, recognized in the Congressional Record, and her role as a Florida Sea Grant scholar during this congressional internship in Washington, D.C, have shaped her understanding of policy and public service. Looking ahead, Alexia aspires to bring new perspectives to existing conversations by combining her research and scientific experiences with her dedication to public service and political discourse. Alexia aims to bridge the gap between science and policy, contributing to meaningful change in society and its dedication to interdisciplinary perspectives.
