About Alexis Byers
I am currently the Assistant Director of the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York. Previously, I was an Assistant Professor in the Mathematics & Statistics Department at YSU for 5 years after graduating from Western Michigan University in 2018 with my Ph.D. in Mathematics. I am also the director of an after-school program called PRIME (People Reaching Intuition in Mathematics for Empowerment) for local high school students in which students increase their preparedness for higher education in STEM through math research. We use mathematical research as a tool to encourage students (particularly those that are underserved and underrepresented in the math community) that they have the ability succeed in a STEM discipline and also to help them build the skills that will propel them towards this goal.
