About Alexis Cairo

Alexis Cairo has significant international experience in strategic communications. She is a strategic communication planning and implementation expert, with broad experience in the natural resources industry. She is an experienced community facilitator who brings together diverse stakeholders to work toward mutually agreeable solutions. Her clients include Rio Tinto, Boart Longyear, Petzl USA and Salt Lake City. Her experience includes more than 20 years with the global mining company Rio Tinto in the US, the United Kingdom and Australia. She also works with local government entities as a community facilitator and assists a number of companies with creating, refining and implementing strategic communication plans. Alexis has encouraged senior managers to work with communities to identify community needs and expectations, deal with crises and manage reputation. She is an expert at creating formal community engagement processes, strategic communication strategies and community-focused sustainability reporting. Alexis has used her experience as both a journalist, an external relations executive and Parry D. Sorensen Distinguished Lecturer to teach the communications course “From Newsroom to Boardroom” at the University of Utah. The course explored the relationship between corporations and media and how the rapidly changing communications climate affects a corporation’s business and reputation. She is co-author of the paper “Emerging Ethical and Legal Issues in the Brave New World of Social Media”, which was presented at the 56th Annual Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Institute. Alexis is a senior communications and community relations consultant affiliated with Wilkinson Ferrari & Co. She is a member of the Board of the Guadalupe School in Salt Lake City.
