About Alexis MacMillan

I am a collaborative project team member, helping organizations create online, print, and blended materials for educational projects. My user-focused design philosophy brings writing to life through storytelling and interactive cases. I love to learn new things! In my work, I have learned how to be smart near the ocean, sell stuff online, intubate someone, respond to a wildland fire, create child-friendly schools, grade lumber, deliver high-stakes defensible exams, meet information privacy laws, stay safe around the world, don an SCBA in -40C, include gender in global health programming, plan for ICT in education in Asia, release a new product, and behave myself in a meeting. I can't wait to find out what's next on the agenda :) How did all of this happen? I owned and ran my own company, Christie Communications, with 15 staff, creating eLearning and interactive media for 28 years before selling the company to Yardstick Testing and Training Experts. We created a number of award-winning programs for clients such as Alberta Health Services (AHS), The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and the United Nations (UN). I was listed on PROFIT Magazine’s W100 as one of Canada’s top 100 women entrepreneurs for three consecutive years. In my own consulting practice, I help organizations create engaging learning programs. I frequently write, shoot, and draw for communication and education projects. Course subjects include public and worker safety, adventure sports, sales and marketing, product releases, tourism, medical procedures, interactive design, IT, travel security, legislation, staff orientation, and health topics. I am never limited to these subjects - to be a great designer, it's best to enter the project as a learner.
