Background

About Alexis McLain

I am a registered dietitian at Texas Children’s Hospital with coverage of the pediatric renal, surgery, and wound outpatient clinics. My journey into the nutrition field began in culinary school at Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island, where I found my passion for food and the ways it brings people together; I then realized how much of an impact food has in all aspects of health and decided that I wanted to become a registered dietitian so that I could help bridge the gap between food and nutrition for my future patients. My master’s degree program at UTMB refined my clinical skills in order to achieve this and built the foundation upon which I define being a quality healthcare provider. To be an effective professional in both the healthcare system and out of, I strongly believe in a commitment to curiosity and lifelong learning. My interests outside of the clinical scope include food science and product development, food insecurity, and sports nutrition. My expertise thus far has developed from a variety of sources outside of the clinical specialty, and through them I have become a better resource for my patients, colleagues, and organization.
