About Alexis Pickering

I am a passionate Criminal Justice major at Pace University’s Pforzheimer Honors College, with minors in Philosophy, Political Science, and Law. My academic and professional path reflects a strong commitment to two intersecting goals: advancing policy and politics in New York City and pursuing a legal career focused on advocacy, prosecution, and justice reform. Currently, I serve as the Intergovernmental Affairs Intern at the NYC Mayor’s Office, where I support coordination between city leadership and elected officials across government. This role has deepened my understanding of how policy is developed and implemented at the municipal level and has furthered my interest in public service that directly supports local and vulnerable communities. I am equally committed to a future in law, particularly as a sex crimes prosecutor or as an attorney practicing civil litigation in the private sector. These are roles centered on standing up for individuals who cannot always advocate for themselves. As a 2023 United Nations Millennium Fellow, I led a social impact project aimed at increasing equity and support for college students with special needs. This work reinforced my belief in justice that prioritizes dignity, inclusion, and compassion. On campus, I serve as a Resident Assistant and have held leadership roles within the Honors College, building inclusive residential communities and supporting students through moments of personal and academic growth. These experiences have strengthened my skills in conflict resolution, leadership, and empathetic communication. I am committed to using my skills and experiences to help build a more just, transparent, and responsive legal and political system, whether in a courtroom or in City Hall.
