About Algis Rudys

I'm a software engineer with over 18 years of experience, mostly specializing in distributed systems and big data. I've led efforts across all stages of a system's lifecycle, from determining requirements through design, implementation, testing, and production deployment. I started out in the ads team, building and operating data analysis infrastructure in the critical path of Google's ads business, to detect fraudulent ads traffic in near-real time. Then I moved to the team managing one of the larger data warehouses in Google. And most recently, I worked on multi-tenant data processing infrastructure used by many teams across Google. Some of the things in common across all these projects:* We needed to handle massive amounts of data efficiently and with good performance * We needed to be resilient to failures because the cost of an outage could be significant (and no one likes getting paged at 2am)* We had stakeholders across many different orgs, so we needed to work a lot with teams in different orgs, sometimes in different countries * We had to support legacy use-cases which added constraints to what we could do
