About Ali Asaad

Hi there, I'm a Post-Doctoral Associate researcher with a solid background in both academia and industry. My expertise lies in industrial rocks and minerals, particularly focusing on clays like bentonite, vermiculite, illite, and kaolin. Right now, I'm studying the properties of bentonite materials for engineered barrier systems in the disposal of high-level radioactive waste. This falls under the Sandwich support project (SP-1) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), where I'm digging into the kinetic properties of cationic exchange and the swelling pressure development of two German bentonites. I've also got good understanding of the physiochemical properties and reactive transport in compacted porous media through my dissertation,'Influence of particle organization and dual porosity on the diffusion of water and solutes in clayey porous media,' was presented in 2021 at the University of Poitiers. On the non-academic side, my journey includes three years in oil & gas industry at Schlumberger, where I worked as a measurements and logging while drilling engineer. That involved performing geophysical measurements like gamma ray, density, porosity, and directional data. In addition to the preparation and basic interpretation of final MWD/LWD Logs print for our clients. Additionally, I've got a solid five years of experience in open-pit mining in the cement industry with Lafarge Cement. For three of those years, I took on the role of quarry manager, ensuring we provided raw materials at the right quality and quantity for cement manufacturing. I'm fluent in Arabic and English, professionally proficient in French, and have basic skills in German. Cheers!
