About Ali Haidar

As an advocate for equitable healthcare and education, I am passionate about making a tangible difference in my community through non-profit initiatives and youth programs. I currently serve as a Student Intern at Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN), where I focus on facilitating and coordinating impactful youth programs such as the Wayne State School of Medicine’s BCAP (Biomedical Career Advancement Program) and the City of Detroit's GDYT (Grow Detroit's Young Talent) Program. Through these initiatives, I hope to create environments that foster student learning, career development, and social empowerment. In addition to my work with DWIHN, I am the President and founder of Remission Detroit, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing financial support to cancer patients across Michigan. I am especially proud of my contributions to establishing student-led chapters of Remission Detroit at universities such as Wayne State and the University of Michigan, helping to raise awareness and support for cancer research and accessibility of treatment. Beyond my non-profit work, I have experience in web design, social media marketing, and student mentorship. As a former program facilitator for Grow Detroit’s Young Talent, I mentored high school and community college students, helping them build resumes, prepare for interviews, and explore careers in science and healthcare. My academic pursuits include both biology and Middle Eastern studies. I have spent the better part of 2 years at Michigan Medicine studying colorectal and pancreatic cancers under the Kitzman and Shureiqi lab groups. My involvement in the department of Middle Eastern studies includes a great focus on Islamic literature and history. I am particularly interested in the intersections of Islamic jurisprudence and medical science. I enjoy drawing connections between scientific research and Islamic tradition, allowing me to better serve the Muslim population in my community.
