About Ali Mount

My name is Ali Mount, and I am an aspiring teacher. Right now I am working for my brother's business, Classy Brain, while I finish pursuing my teaching degree. I am so thankful I was given the opportunity to work for him while I am in college, it is a very flexible job that allows me to do what I need to do as I work towards my career. I have known for a long time that working with children is what I was put on this earth to do. I was the youngest child in my family until I was 9 years old, which is when my little brother was born. He and I were always close and people called me a "mother hen". My mom comes from a family of 11, so there have always been babies around; and wherever there was a baby you could find me. At the age of 19, I began working for an after school program through the YMCA called Kidstop. I spent 4 years working for them, and each year I grew relationships with the students that not every teacher did. The students found trust in me, and I became someone they knew they could talk to about anything. That is the impact I am looking to make on each of the children's lives who come through my classroom. I want to be the teacher they can look back on and be thankful for the time they spent in my classroom. I am looking to teach first or second grade; though I will be happy with whatever grade I get the opportunity to teach. However, I would like to keep it in the elementary-aged grades. I am looking to stay local, but I am willing to move where opportunities present themselves. Math was always my favorite subject in school, and I think that is because it was always something I easily understood. I am hoping to give each of my students the opportunity to have fun while learning because I believe it makes learning easier when it is fun. Not a lot of people understand math, so I think if I am able to make it fun for them in the classroom it will make them excited to keep learning about it. I am currently taking classes at Oglala Lakota College to get my teaching degree. I will begin student teaching in about a year and before I know it I will have my own classroom. I can't wait to graduate college and pursue my dream of becoming a teacher.
