About Ali Saad

Ali Saad studied Architecture at TU Berlin and UPC Barcelona with grants from the German National Academic Foundation and the European Commission. Between 2004 and 2007 he was assistant professor, lecturer and research fellow at the TU Berlin conducting research and teaching on the transformation of Post-war New Towns in Europe, the Middle East and South Asia, and a consultant to the giz in the framework of the Aleppo CDS. He worked at EMBT in Barcelona, maxwan in Rotterdam and LIN in Berlin. At LIN he was chef de projet of "Grand Paris - Métropole Douce"​, an urban vision for Greater Paris commissioned by Nicolas Sarkozy as part of the Grand Paris project. In 2009 he co-founded Uberbau Architecture & Urbanism, a partnership that was working internationally on projects ranging from the architectural to the territorial scale and that lasted until 2014. From 2015 to 2020 he was working under his own name with Bureau Ali Saad. Since 2011 he was working with Marta Torres Ruiz on various projects and in various constellations, like Bureau Ruiz Saad. Since 2022 he is a senior consultant in Arup's Cities team in Berlin working in the fields of strategic urbanism, new mobility, digitalisation and climate mitigation in cities and the countryside. Ali was invited to talk among other at Berlage Institute, Atelier International du Grand Paris, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Université Montréal, DAZ, ZK/U, Maastricht Biennale, Kent State University Florence, International New Town Institute Almere, African Center for Cities Cape Town, Chandigarh School of Architecture, Architecture Institute Rotterdam and ENSA Paris-La Vilette. He published in books and magazines including Bauwelt, archplus and monu, and exhibited at KW Berlin, Architekturzentrum Wien, Aedes Berlin, Cité de l'architecture Paris and Moscow Urban Forum.
