About Ali Sadek

I am currently a senior at Duke University pursuing a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in French and Francophone Studies. While on the pre-medical track, I have been committed to the development of translational therapeutics for the clinical setting. My work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Nature, Cellular and Molecular Immunology, and Oncogene. I was co-first author on a manuscript that elucidated the first structure of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron spike protein and its binding to human ACE-2 receptors. This manuscript was cited in the NIH Director's Blog "Biomedical Research Leads Science’s 2021 Breakthroughs" where our use of AI predictions was selected as the "Breakthrough of the Year". I am also deeply committed to equity and inclusion both in healthcare and the francophone world. Having served as part of the selection committee for the Choix Goncourt, I advocated for social issues that needed the attention of the French literary space. As the founder of African Nations for Care, a student group that raises funds and awareness for free-of-charge hospitals in African countries, I work to promote healthcare access in vulnerable communities.
