About Alicia Olago

Alicia Olago is an environmental scientist and seasoned researcher with over a decade of experience in sustainable development projects in Eastern Africa and is currently CfA’s Senior Product Manager at sensors.Africa. She leads a team of Hardware Engineers and Technologists in a citizen science initiative, utilizing sensors & other data sources (e.g, satellite imagery) to monitor air, water & sound pollution, and radiation among other environmental hazards, to provide citizens & civic watchdogs actionable information on their cities & communities in the continent. Before CfA, she spearheaded research projects through their lifecycle with Local Governments, Development Partners & INGOs such as the World Bank, DANIDA, ILO, UNDP, Norwegian Refugee Council, Social Development Direct, British Academy & Stockholm Environment Institute. Her Knowledge & expertise in natural resource management & sustainable development are evident in her past studies centered on human & physical geography and climate change security. She has an ardent desire for climate action in the global south and co-founded a Black Soldier Fly farming venture with a vision to revolutionize the agricultural sector through a circular economy that creates job opportunities for youth & women while advocating for food sovereignty and zero waste.
