About Alison Clark

I am a creative, enthusiastic HCPC registered psychologist who enjoys the challenge of working with complexity. Having completed 5 years post-qualification supervised experience, I have developed an interest and expertise in working with adults with complex needs, in particular adults with learning disabilities. I have significant experience of working with adults with complex disabilities, in particular brain injury and an interest in trauma and attachement. My doctoral research was a qualitative study of the experience of sexuality and intimacy in young men who had sustained a traumatic brain injury. Beyond this I have a breadth of experience of client groups e.g. those who have attracted diagnoses of psychosis and personality disorder, and settings across the NHS including the community & inpatient wards which has given me significant experience of assessing and working with risk including suicidal ideation and safeguarding issues. While the main focus of my work is adult mental health, the breadth of my placements and work experience means I have worked with people across the lifespan. I work within the bounds of my competence, managing my own caseload; assessing clients both formally and informally; devising and co-creating treatment plans; and delivering a clinical service with an appropriate level of supervision for my stage of development. I currently hold posts at specialist psychologist and principal psychologist level within the NHS.
