Background
About Alison Concilus
I am currently working as the Clinical Research Coordinator for the Otolaryngology (ENT) Department at Navy Medical Readiness and Training Command Portsmouth (Naval Medical Center Portsmouth), as a member of the Clinical Investigation Department. NMRTC is part of the Defense Health Agency (DHA). My role involves managing all DoD research studies for the Otolaryngology (ENT) Department, working with Residents and Staff Physicians - initial IRB applications, Continuing Review and Amendment submissions, screening & consenting subjects, data collection & entry, electronic medical record review, oversight of PI and AI training requirements, regulatory compliance, & ensuring good clinical practice and research ethics are always followed. I maintain an active security clearance that is integral to my role. Prior to my current position, I was a Research Project Coordinator with Insight Therapeutics, LLC in Norfolk, VA, where I facilitated important research centered around the health care needs of seniors and their caregivers. This work largely involved the nursing home population, including flu vaccine research and important advancements in COVID. My work included study recruitment and enrollment, data collection, communication with study sites nationwide, maintenance of study records, prepping and shipping of study materials, development of informative study videos, guides and SOPs, and extensive process improvement initiatives. For 6 and a half years, I was a Consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton, also working at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. I was a member of the Health Analysis Department of the Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center, largely performing in a Program Management role but I wore many hats. I completed my Masters in Public Health in the Health Promotion track through the Eastern Virginia Medical School and Old Dominion University joint MPH program in 2013. Following the completion of my MPH, I joined Booz Allen Hamilton where I served in various roles supporting the Health Analysis Department of the Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center for the next 6+ years. I graduated from James Madison University in August 2010 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Health Sciences, concentration in Public Health Education. Completed an 8 week internship with the Central Shenandoah Health District of the Virginia Department of Health May-July 2010. Completed a practicum in health education at the Harrisonburg Community Health Center (see profile for details). I am also CHES (Certified Health Education Specialist) certified as of 2010.
