About Alison Forest

After graduating with honours from the University of Alberta in 2006 with my BScN, I began my career, working for over a decade in obstetrics. During this time I developed a passion for perinatal bereavement, particularly the care of those suffering stillbirths (as well as other forms of pregnancy loss). I believe strongly that my life experiences and life lessons have moulded me into a person who can enter into places of suffering with others and offer compassion at life's critical moments. While often difficult, it is in these places where, I believe, nurses are needed most. Paradoxically, witnessing moments of joy and sorrow, new life and death, achievement and struggle informs my belief that nursing is a profession of both privilege and practice. It is science and art intermingled; it is trade and craft. Completing extra education, I taught neonatal resuscitation (with the Canadian Paediatric Society), developed creative writing projects, took on public speaking opportunities and began academic pursuits. Following my master’s degree, I plan to pursue PhD studies, researching the culture of nursing in Canada. I am very fortunate to have been the recipient of many scholarships, grants and bursaries along the way. Not to mention the support of colleagues, community, family and friends.
