About Alison Lee

I’m a leading expert in transport planning, creating better urban places, client outcomes and helping transport support the lives people want to lead. I’ve more than 20 years’ experience including senior roles at major organisations including Urbis, GHD, Booz & Company and City of Melbourne working on major projects across Australia and New Zealand. I'm known for making transport planning exciting, simple and accessible. I use research, data and best practice to provide impactful advice that clients can act on. Originally from Queenscliff, a tiny town in coastal Victoria, I have seen the positive impacts for communities when local government and communities work together which fed a love of policy and respect for the role of local councils and State Government. I enjoy extensive interaction with local councils, State Governments and agencies across regional, suburban and capital cities I’m a subject matter expert and published author on the economics of great urban spaces and transport including the economic benefits of cycling and using streets for different purposes. I also research and commentate on large-scale travel behavior change projects and sustainable transport planning and reporting including new transport infrastructure and travel strategies for new developments and areas. I’m helping cities recover from COVID, doing extensive COVID response evaluation of significant projects including parklettes and street closures. My work on parklets is cited by academic experts, sparking a global conversation on their future and benefits. I’m am an advocate for inclusive cities and whenever I can, I love to travel, seeking out successful public places that create spaces fit for everyone including safe places for women, children, those living with a disability and neurodiversity.
