About Alison Marshall

Connecting IT students and researchers to industry and the community. As Director of The Gig, Makerlab, an idea born out of Covid, Alison has successfully created a space where students can get real work experience for real client's. The Gig prototypes ideas for Maori initiatives or Not for Profits that give back to the community, and supports startups or innovation in the IT field. Alison manages IT students into work integrated learning (WIL) internships. Alison builds relationships through collaboration and partnerships. She has successfully built and expanded the Wintec placement service. She wants the best for both parties, she can come and talk to you about your business and qualify students that will fit to your needs so that everybody gets a great experience. With twenty years experience in information technology project management, team management and business analysis, and ten in teaching, she successfully bridges the gap between industry and academia and can relate to both sides of the relationship. Her passion is to help create an IT community in the Waikato region by connecting what we do here at Wintec to the IT industry, supporting and running events like the Waikato IOT, hackathons, Techfest and Techweek events like Woman in Tech and Research in Action. She has worked together with Cultivate IT and Te Waka on the Waikato IT strategy and Future Force councils. In her spare time, she enjoys photography and getting outside walking with family. Alison also has a passion for architecture design and history. The future of our workforce is here, and Alison can help with students that have been taught the latest technologies with hands-on project-based learning to bring new ideas to your business.
