About Alison Spencer

I spent nine years working in a school setting, be it public, charter or private. I taught kindergarten, second, third, and fifth grade, which exposed me to subject matter and social-emotional development across multiple ages. My time in the classroom strengthened my communication and presentation skills, helped develop the ability to organize and plan, unlocked my creative side, and allowed me to understand how to attend to details without losing sight of the end goals. Most recently, I have worked in the travel industry, first as a freelance writer and now as a member of a boutique consultancy. I run the company's social media accounts and manage the blog, both editing others' stories and writing my own. I compose a monthly newsletter and assist with other branding tasks, as needed. Beyond work, I am an associate board member at ACES: Athletes Committed to Educating Students and continue writing for pleasure. I have had stories- about various destinations both local and abroad- appear in different publications including the Star Tribune, Big Sky Magazine, MN Monthly, Outpost, and other online outlets. I enjoy traveling the world (been to over 50 countries and all 7 continents) and crafting, whether that is scrapbooking, taking photographs, or making homemade cards for any occasion.
