Background
About Alison Topping
I have been working for the Education Department since 2006 in a volunteer capacity and then from 2007 as an employee for the Education Department, In 2012, I obtained a Permanent Level 3 Senior Special Needs Education Assistant. I am a passionate advocate for Special Needs Students, I have found that developing a positive rapport with students, allows students to be relaxed, confident and opens the opportunity to assist through building trust, to feel safe within the classroom environment and enables students to feel confident to ask for assistance from me. I believe this is a major factor in students being able to improve their self-esteem, self-worth and improve their resilience to cope with the stresses and trials of everyday life. I like to encourage students to set goals and to try and achieve their personal goals successfully and autonomously. I feel it is important to participate in creating a supportive and caring environment, through modelling appropriate behaviour to enable students to reach their full potential.
