About Alison Watt

Alison studied at the University of Glasgow in the UK and has an MA.(Distinction), MSc. and a Postgraduate Diploma in English, Education and Cultural Studies. She is currently studying for a diploma in counseling by distance. Based in the United Arab Emirates, Alison has experience in teaching General English, Business English, Academic English and English for Specific Purposes for more than ten years, mainly to Emiratis, but also many other nationalities. Her students have included university students, businessmen and women, senior corporate managers, senior government officials, diplomats, federal police officers and members of UAE royal families. In the last few years, Alison has delivered training to unemployed nationals across the central and eastern regions of Sharjah. Before coming to the UAE, Alison held a variety of positions including proofreading, foreign language teaching at adult night classes and customer care. She was also very involved in voluntary work and developed and delivered training in cultural and religious awareness for local councils and other groups whilst also coordinating a number of committees reporting to her. Whilst working for a UAE government authority, Alison worked closely with the Assessment Unit to develop and conduct various types of assessments testing the skills of employees. In almost all her positions she has developed her own training material to be used either alone or to supplement existing material. Alison is now using her passion for and knowledge of the UAE to expand her online accounts about the northern emirates and develop it into a business. She is also looking for opportunities to assist government entities in showcasing their respective emirates and attracting both international and domestic visitors.
