About Alison Winters

I am an Undergraduate student at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Law, History and Society with a minor in Psychology. At Vanderbilt, I'm the News Editor for The Vanderbilt Hustler and the President of Vandy Votes. Additionally, I participate in Women in Government and Students Supporting Environmental Awareness and Responsibility. I'm looking for opportunities in the realm of journalism, politics, law, public relations, or communications. I recently spent the summer of 2023 working as the Volunteer Manager for Terry Vo's campaign for Nashville Metro Council in District 17. I oversaw the management and delegation of 40+ volunteers for community outreach events to promote the campaign and encourage undecided voters to vote, volunteer, and support Vo’s campaign. I planned and managed door knocking events, meet and greets, and campaign celebrations to assist in a successful campaign that swayed over 53.6% of voters on election day. Additionally, I gained experience with overall campaign strategy, speech writing, event planning, data entry, and administrative support for a successful campaign for a progressive candidate in a district with over 20,200 residents. Since January of 2024, I have continued my work with Terry as her Intern, allowing me to oversee scheduling and appointments, coordinate logistics for meetings, and send correspondence to ensure timely meetings. I provide administrative support to Terry including organizing financial reports, preparing documents, and managing files in order to aid Terry in her work to focus on the needs of the Nashville community. As the News Editor for The Vanderbilt Hustler, the university’s official student-led newspaper, I have had the incredible opportunity to edit news pieces for accuracy, organization, and cohesion to prepare for publication as well as manage the budget, mentor new staff writers, and lead weekly meetings. I publish stories with a focus on important topics including gun violence, LGBTQ+ issues, and inclusivity on campus and in the surrounding Nashville community. My work has been recognized by the Associated College Press, Society of Professional Journalists, and Best of SNO. I have spent the last three and a half years working in guest service as a member of leadership at AMC, where I have been promoted twice. As a full-time student and part-time Supervisor I have learned to effectively lead a group of people, resolve guest concerns, and work with others in a timely and efficient manner.
