About Alissa Keith

I am passionate about people and helping them connect—to others through learning a new language, to their future by developing essential skills, and to hope through advocating for those whose voices have been suppressed. In both my professional and personal life, I strive to help others achieve their goals. Whether it's assisting high school students with their college admissions essays, coaching a middle school cross country team, refereeing a neighborhood swim team, or helping Afghan women escape the taliban to pursue education and freedom, I am dedicated to making a difference. I find immense value in connecting people to their best possible futures. Over the past 18 years, I have taught every English composition course imaginable, from basic sentence and paragraph composition to literature analysis. I have worked with English language learners from around the world and from the US. My passion for eliminating linguistic discrimination informs my approach in every classroom. I am well-versed in the research and best practices in pedagogy and andragogy, particularly in language acquisition and persuasive writing. In addition to English, I have taught Spanish courses ranging from basic language skills to Spanish literature and politics. My experience spans in-person and online teaching, working with high school students to adult learners. Many of my students are heritage learners reconnecting with their Spanish-speaking family and culture. I have developed a variety of courses for in-person, online synchronous, and online asynchronous learning environments. I am committed to enabling students to learn in the way that suits them best, utilizing technology such as Canvas, Blackboard, and Google Classroom. Through these platforms and my volunteer work, I am grateful for the privilege of connecting with thousands of people across the globe.
