Background
About Allen Dusault
Allen Dusault has been working in the energy and environmental fields for more than 40 years. He is a recognized national leader in energy program management, including in the commercial and industrial, agricultural and residential sectors. His background encompasses program startup and management, business development, policy and legislative initiatives as well as energy research. At Franklin Energy, he has managed energy efficiency programs for ComEd and WEC Energy subsidaires in Chicago, Illinois. He also launched the start-up of Louisville Gas and Electric (LG & E) and Kentucky Utilities (KU) commercial/industrial energy efficiency program; in Toronto, Canada, it was the Powerstream refrigeration efficiency program. He currently leads PGL/NSG R&D and Market Transformation programs collaborating with many companies, universities and research institutes across the U.S. and Canada, including the University of Illinois, Argonne National Labs and the Illinois Institute of Technology. A defining feature of Allen’s career has been the cross disciplinary nature of his work. In addition to his extensive work in the energy field, it also encompasses the wastewater industry, agricultural sector, materials recycling, waste management and biofuels. He has been a pioneer in commercial and residential recycling technology introducing at Laidlaw Waste the Blue Bin system of curbside collection into the U.S. and expanding operations throughout East Coast. He also led Massachusetts Depart. of Environmental Protection’s biosolids and composting program, introducing innovative methods of treatment and beneficial reuse. He developed and led implementation of the U.S. Dairy Industry's national farm sustainability program. Unusually, Allen has also worked in the coal fields of Appalachia, documenting environmental impacts from coal mining. Much of his work has focused on environmental and social justice issues, setting up programs in New York, Boston and Washington, DC. A sampling of professional recognition includes the U.S. EPA's Region 9 Leadership Award, the Prime Mover Award from American Society of Mechanical Engineers and two innovation awards from the American Society of Civil Engineers. He holds a patent on a novel system of reducing embodied carbon and energy in construction. He has been an innovator for many decades. In the mid- 1970s, he designed his first rooftop PV system with battery storage, the first of many environmentally beneficial innovations. Allen holds two Masters degrees and two Bachelor of Science degrees from three different universities.
