About Allison Covert

As a passionate advocate for environmental stewardship, I bring a unique blend of expertise in Environmental Studies, and community engagement to the table. My academic focus in paleolimnology gave me hands-on experience using biological indicators to understand how climate change and human development have shaped freshwater ecosystems over time. Currently, I serve as a Project Coordinator in the Region of Waterloo’s Waste Management Division, where I lead public outreach for the transition to a new automated cart-based waste collection program. I support the development of communication strategies and educational materials, and engage with residents to ensure a smooth rollout and promote long-term waste reduction goals. In addition to my academic and municipal work, I have a strong foundation in grassroots engagement through my experience with non-profit organizations. I’ve supported municipal and community climate action planning, developed urban agriculture programming, and led public education initiatives on various environmental issues. I’m passionate about building community capacity and fostering behaviour change that supports a circular economy and low-carbon future. I’m always eager to collaborate on projects that align science, policy, and community engagement to drive meaningful environmental change.
