About Allison Johnson

The Accessible Attitudes Disability Inclusion training starts the conversation about how and why people view and feel towards people with disabilities as well as experiences that people with disabilities have every day and conversing about similar experiences that they had and how that made them feel. A few questions are what did the discussion of disability look like in your family as a child? What does the discussion look like in your family today? What this conversation does is it opens people's eyes to and emphasizes empathy for what people with disabilities experience every day. Also hearing my experiences as a person with a disability with these questions humanizes me more with the other people in the room and now we're all on the same playing field. I think before asking these questions it's important to emphasize that no one is the villain in this story, we are all here to learn because when we know better, we can do better. It's also important to emphasize that after this conversation it's important to emphasize that we need to keep having these conversations with our family, friends, co-workers, managers, the community in which we surround ourselves with.
