About Allison McMaster

Business Management was not what I expected my Bachelor's degree to be in. Marine Biology was my first academic path. My love for the ocean and how intrigued I was by the interactions between the organisms and their environments lead me to pursue a degree in Biology with a concentration in marine biology. What they don’t tell you in all the information sessions is that you also have to get through Chemistry lectures. I mean they probably did tell me that, I was too focused on the Marine Biology part. Although I was struggling, I assumed it was just a learning curve, so I continued to push through. No matter how many colored pens and highlighters I used in taking notes or how well I managed my time for studying, it was not going well. I couldn’t understand how I absolutely loved marine life and learning about it, but I was struggling, and no level of organization or determination could change that. In the Spring semester of my second year, I decided to take a business class. In this class I learned something very important; just because I was passionate about something, doesn’t mean it was supposed I was supposed to focus my future in. The biggest life lesson that I learned throughout this process was to be open to new experiences and life paths. As I am venturing on this new journey after college, that is one aspect that I am focusing on; being open to new and unexpected experiences.
