About Allison Pierce

I am a secondary Math teacher at BSA. Not only do I teach Math, but I am the Head of Department. I love what I do: I am an educator, mentor and innovator. Being an educator is hard work, but the fruits of my labor make everything worth while. I like to help students achieve their academic goals. I prefer to teach lower ability students because they need the most support and moral boost. Most people believe that you are either born a Mathematician or you aren’t, this is false. Please, fellow educators and mentors, stop thinking this way. Students come into a Math classroom believing they are failures even before they sit down. I take it as my responsibility to stop the fear of Mathematics. As a mentor to other teachers I feel that it is my job to support their journeys through our school and make sure they have healthy and rich experiences in the classroom. When students are interested, classroom management becomes much easier. Math teachers feel appreciated and part of a team when working for me. Our team makes classrooms inviting and lessons enticing. As an innovator I try and keep up with all new methods of teaching and instruction. For the last three years I have formed a part of our iPad team to integrate iPads in our curriculum at BSA. It has been an amazing experience and has challenged us to go above and beyond. We have come together to create projects which address cross-curricular standards, bridging the gap between subject matter and furthermore motivating our students. After suggesting the implementation of Google Apps our school has become a Google Institution. We are breaking barriers and transforming the substitution of paper to technology into a whole new modification of how we look at education and the possibilities that it offers. I am a professional. I believe in development, improvement and collaboration. I believe in my students and in my ability to make a meaningful connection with them to better their educational and academic achievements.
