About Allison Read

I am a Level II certificated teacher in Pennsylvania with the following certifications: Elementary K-6, English 7-12, and Family and Consumer Science. I have more than 30 years of education, training, writing, supervisory and department management experience in nonprofit mental health and community organizations, the United States Army Reserves and National Guard, and public education. I taught CPR and First Aid for the American Red Cross for 12 years and was nationally certified as a group exercise instructor and personal trainer for 8 years. I am currently a high school English Credit Recovery teacher with Agora Cyber Charter school in Pennsylvania, teaching some of the most challenging students in our school population. These students have issues with attendance, assignment submission, class participation, and the majority have been held back at least one grade due to not passing courses. My job is to find out what they need to help them succeed in my course, and help them adopt better work habits, I give them extra support in class, and work with them to study for tests and prepare for big assignments and projects. I have experience teaching British and World Literature, American Literature (regular and honors), Journalism and Creative Writing. I am a published journalist with hard news and feature stories in two county newspapers. I have done technical writing for medical trade magazines, and an international news story in Army Reserve Magazine. I have written press releases, brochures, annual reports and newsletters in the corporate environment. I completed my first fiction novel in September 2014.
