Currently employed with Distribution NOW as a Materials Management Tech. for Shell Canada. Duties involve keeping inventory levels current at Shell's warehouses in town and in the field. Also looking after the VMI levels and kitting parts for submitted work orders and requests. Employed at Canfor Taylor Pulp for the past 27 years. I started in the Purchasing / Stores Dept, and worked my way up through the ranks in Operations, starting as Warehouse Operator, through the Bleach Plant and Water / Effluent Treatment, finally ending up in the Control Room as No. 2 Operator. While a part of the Purchasing / Stores Dept, I completed the course Principals of Buying. I shipped and received all incoming and outgoing inventory as well as playing a large part in inventory control including purchasing and perpetual counts. I also provided coverage for the Materials Manager. While in Operations I spent a great deal of time running Forklifts and Clamp Trucks loading railcars and trucks. While moving up through the ranks I was trained in and became competent and comfortable working with the chemicals used in the pulping process, such as Hydrogen Peroxide, Caustic, Silicate and Sodium Sulfite to name a few. The one area I became quite competent and familiar with is the Water / Effluent Treatment Plant. I was responsible for making sure the incoming process water was clean and usable. Also for the testing, monitoring and treatment of the effluent being discharged to the river from the time it came into the plant to when treatment was complete. In the position of No.2 Control Room Operator, Ii was responsible for the running of the Bleach Plant, working closely with the No,1 Control Room Operator as well as the Dewatering Operator on the floor. The pulp is washed, bleached and sent to the Finishing Line through the Bleach Plant using a number of chemicals in the bleach liquor and a series of wash presses. At the time of our Mill Closure, I was part way through training in the No.1 Control Room Operator position. I enjoyed Operations and am currently working toward my 4th Class Power Engineering.
