About Allison Tharakan

With over 15 years of experience in pharmacy, I’ve had the opportunity to work across various settings—community, compounding, and inpatient clinical. Each role has shaped my approach to patient care, but my passion has always been in specialized clinical pharmacy. Today, I focus on NICU pharmacy and adult hematology/oncology at UNC Health Rex Hospital, where I strive to make a meaningful impact on both patients and healthcare teams. Beyond clinical work, I’ve embraced a leadership role that allows me to mentor and educate the next generation of pharmacists. I coordinate pharmacy students, PGY1 and PGY2 residents, and new pharmacist hires, ensuring they have the guidance and resources to grow into confident clinicians. Professional development has always been close to my heart, and I take pride in helping others find their footing in this ever-evolving field. As a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist with ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications, I bring expertise, dedication, and a commitment to excellence to every aspect of my work. Whether it’s optimizing patient care or shaping future pharmacists, I’m always looking for ways to learn, teach, and innovate.
