About Ally Phillips

Our career journeys are never what we expect. When I was 5, I wanted to be a vet. When I was 20, I wanted to work in data. When I was 25, I wanted to interview people and learn what makes them tick. Now, I'm a Commercial Leader in one of the world's top online entertainment companies. My career has spanned research, strategy, commercial, marketing & product. It's taken many turns, and provided many opportunities. I've managed a budget of over $1Bn; led a team of 45 to build a world-first, model-led personalisation system for offers; & pioneered the implementation of a new operating model. I've consulted for 35+ well-known brands, helping them turn insight into strategic action through talking to their customers. I've worked with clever people who inspired me, for great companies who supported my growth, and have led teams who continued to strengthen my love of people. And… I've also experienced the not so good: inauthentic leadership, burnout work cultures, lazy colleagues, and unfortunately, misogyny. Across all this, I have learnt 2 major lessons… 1⃣You own your choices. Your work-life balance. Your boundaries. Your development. Your success. No one will drive this for you. 2⃣My super-power is my authenticity. No longer is there a ‘mould’ that must be fit, to excel in corporate. Everyone should have the support to build confidence to be themselves. With this experience in mind, whilst I continue to drive impact in my role, I am also focusing on a passion: inspiring other women to grow their career. Without fear of burnout, without overwhelm, and with confidence to do so by being their authentic selves. I am teaching skills needed to navigate and thrive in the corporate landscape. Skills we're not taught in school or uni. We're simply expected to pick them up along the way.
