About Ally West

Throughout my career, I’ve been driven by one mission: to create change in my ecosystem, build my community, and uplift my region. I could have gone west, but I chose to stay where I could move mountains. To change the game, I knew I had to play it—earning my way to a position where I could rewrite the rules and put a ladder down for others. I’ve faced challenges at every step. Early in my career, I saw firsthand the impact a local startup could have on its community, and I knew I wanted to replicate that. By creating companies and teams that give opportunities for others to grow, spin out, and innovate, we can change the economic and cultural landscape of entire regions. As a trans woman, I bring tenacity and a unique perspective to leadership and entrepreneurship. My journey hasn’t been easy—doors that were once open have closed, ideas have been overlooked, and my existence has been met with opposition. But being trans also fuels my drive to push through barriers and connect with those who are afraid to be themselves. New Valley Labs is my vision realized—a tool to build, a vehicle for change, and a platform for others to join the fight. It’s a place where founders, builders, and dreamers can come together to create. It’s a safe space to express yourself and be visible, knowing that visibility inspires others to find their strength. The venture capital world remains a boys’ club, rooted in privilege, wealth, and exclusivity. Breaking through these barriers is not easy, but it’s necessary.
